OK , here's a quick! rundown of some of the interesting parts.
Interview with Bob Faber (MD of 3DO Europe)
--------------------------------------------
Talks about European market and M2. According to him M2 is way
better than anything their competitors have ( I guess he would
say that though).
The engineers at 3do started work on the M2 just as the first
batch of 3do's began selling.
Interview with Robert Lindsey(Senior VP for Marketing & General Manager ofStudio3do)
------------------------------
3do software ratio is 8:1 on 3do units sold.
Talks about the M2. When asked how an M2 game would compare to
Ridge Racer he replied that it would probably outperform it
by seven to ten times. He also said with the M2 we have the
performance to have so many polygons that the objects appear real.
Theyre developing for the M2 using an Early Access system that
emulates the M2 for development purposes.
Interview with Crystal Dynamics (David Morse)
--------------------------------------------
First page is stuff about how he helped develop the Amiga, Lynx and 3do.
Next page is all about Crystal Dynamics, he said that Gex and
SLam & Jam 95 are their best games yet, he said theres a world of
difference between these and their previous games. They have 3 other
games due out and then they'll address the M2.
Asked wether M2 can do a better Ridge Racer he replied "Yeah sure,
because it has alot more power"
Preview Any Channel (Po'ed)
-----------------------------
This sounds and looks a great game. Looks like a doom clone but
youre fitted with a jet pack. You start at the top of a cityscape
hundreds of feet in the air on a perimeter wall, looking down on it
The city looks like a huge construction site, with girders, ledges,
windows and gantries. Using the jet back you can leap over the edge
and tumble earth bound until you flick the thruster switch and enable
you to hover.
The idea of the game seems to be that you are part of a crack team of
marines whos goal it is to rid the alien planet of aliens, which are
infact pink, conical breasted mutant females!
The aliens have been programmed to be intelligent , they can run
and hide and find new attack routes depending on what weaponary you
have.
There isnt a standard format to the game where you complete one level
and move on, you can go to whatever level you want (40 areas in
total) but each area gets increasingly difficult. So you may find
one too hard with the weapons you have so you have go back and find
some improved weaponary. Weapons include heat seeking missiles,
lasers and flame throwers.
Feature Art Data Interactive
-----------------------------
This is a 4 page feature starting with how ADI started then ADI & 3do
and finally about Doom.
They talked about the M2 , theyre really excited about it. They
comment on the fact that as it can do over a million polygons
a second which means everything can be rendered in realtime. They'll
probably be developing for the PSX and Saturn aswell but they prefer
the M2. They sent a couple of programmers to the WCES show and they
came back all excited, theyre wanting to get the M2 development
station real soon.
Doom - Just starting the playable stages of 3DO Doom
and there is simply no comparison between the PC and 3DO versions.
The stuff theyre putting together is phenominal (in their words).
They had problems with the 32x and Jag version with Ram restrictions
and neither machine had what it takes, 3DO has got what it takes.
3DO version will have full spectrum sound right off the cd, a never
before seen episode of Doom with new levels, new monsters (plus
powers) and new weapons.
The two programmers that are working on Doom actually worked on
the original 3DO operating system so what more could you ask for.
Doom 2 will be alot more enhanced than Doom, they want to take it
alot further than the PC Doom 2. They had filmed some FMV for
Doom 1 but they couldnt use it because it was too gory, they will
be saving it for Doom 2.
Theyre really wanting to put modem play into Doom theyre just hoping
3DO will have the modem ready for the release, but it may have to
be left out.
They also have 3 other games in development, Bounty Hunter, Chess
Wars and an exclusive to 3do magazine Alien Seed. Alien Seed will
probably be for M2 only as it uses realtime rendering and is
increadibly awesome. Chess Wars sounds like a big production
with stuntmen ,sorry stuntpersons :-), and actors, etc.
Preview of Slam and Jam 95
---------------------------
This looks excellent even though I'm not a basketball fan. Four
good screen shots and it looks like one of the best 3do games.
Pretty much like FIFA with camera angles, tactics, instant replay,
crowd sounds, commentary. Available in May
Syndicate Preview
-----------------
Much the same as the PC version but with some enhancements. Most
significant being state of the art CD sound. Available in July.
Profile of EA Canada
---------------------
2 Page profile about Electronic Arts Canada. Talking about FIFA
and Need For Speed. They comment on the fact that the M2 is vital for
the success of the 3DO, as NFS and FIFA pushed the machine to its
limits.
Theyre thinking about data disks for NFS and FIFA, they think theyve
got a way around the problem of the 3do resetting itself when you
eject a cd. Use the save game from originals if you ask me.
Sony and Sega want them to do versions of FIFA and NFS.
They look to the M2 as the future, they said the 3Do was the
1st next generation console, the Saturn and PSX the 2nd generation
and the M2 will be the third generation. Theyre currently doing
benchtests with the M2.
EA are also working on two modem games, they expect the modem
to be out later this year.
Also talks to Bruce McMillan who produced FIFA, he kind of mentions
a FIFA M2 version. He also follows Manchester United, shame on him.
NHL Hockey is in development. Also mentions a new version of FIFA
perhaps.
Feature on Studio 3do (Bladeforce & Killing Time)
-----------------------
My fingers are starting to hurt.
2 page feature/preview both look excellent. Same screenshots
as on the internet.
Bladeforce has 16,000 true 3d objects with over 500,000 in
the entire game.
Killing Time has loads of different weapons and 17 types
of enemies. Twenty Big levels and save game feature. Also
probablity of a modem-friendly sequel.
Review of Striker
-----------------
5 star top rating. Looks like alot like FIFA. But has better
quality sprites and animation, looking at the 10 or so screenshots
FIFA looks better on paper but this is supposed to move faster and
smoother.
You also have shot power bar , indoor football, weather, tactics,
38 international teams. It doesnt have an 8 player option, just a
two player but they reckon it will win alot of British fans.
Which hopefully means the gameplay is top notch. Footie fans will
have to search far and wide for a better two player game they say
at the end or the review. Available May.
Review of Gex
--------------
5 Stars, excellent, must buy, betters any game before it. no
more to add really.
Review of Myst - 4 Stars
Review of Cannon Fodder - 5 Stars . Better sound, colour, control
than previous versions.
Playguides for Samuari Showdown, The Horde, Star Control, Theme Park
and Total Eclipse also Comes with a Theme Park demo cd, all in all
a top mag.
